An important note to superintendents across NC. Over the weekend, our featured read today about federal funding in the NYT Magazine picked up a lot of buzz. The article says, “If districts haven’t allocated it [the federal dollars] by then, it will disappear.” Please remember extensions may be requested via DPI as per this letter from the US Department of Education to AASA. Email me if you need more information.

Lots going on today in education across the state.

At 1:15 pm,  Secretary Cardona and Dr. Jill Biden will visit North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro to meet with students in the North Carolina A&T College of Education and deliver remarks at a school rally. Go #NC10!

Secretary Cardona will then visit Guilford Technical Community College in Greensboro, where he will tour the school, hear from professors and speak with students about the community college’s high school to career pathways program. Alex will be there. Go #Impact58!

According to the press release, the First Lady and Secretary Cardona will highlight ways states and districts are recruiting and preparing qualified educators for the classroom, and meet with teachers and teachers-in-training who are participating in leading teacher pipeline programs. The Department of Education’s Road to Success Back to School Bus Tour will showcase the many ways school communities are supporting students and teachers, including utilizing federal dollars for schools provided by the Biden-Harris Administration’s American Rescue Plan.

The House Select Committee on an Education System for North Carolina’s Future will be at Harding High School in Charlotte for a public hearing at 5 p.m. Here is more information, including how to sign up to speak.

The Governor will be at Allenbrook Elementary School in Charlotte at 1 p.m. to drop off donations from the Governor’s School Supply Drive.
