Happy Friday.

DRIVE is happening today. Liz and Rupen are there! Stay tuned.

Take note of a bill filed yesterday, y’all. House Bill 1173: AN ACT TO AMEND THE CONSTITUTION OF NORTH CAROLINA TO ELECT MEMBERS OF THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION, TO MAKE THE SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION THE CHAIR OF THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION AS AN EX OFFICIO MEMBER, AND TO REQUIRE THAT VACANCY APPOINTMENTS BY THE GOVERNOR SHALL BE SUBJECT TO CONFIRMATION BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN JOINT SESSION.

Word is votes on the budget will happen the week of June 27.

Our colleagues at Education Strategy Group, also known as ESG, are hosting a webinar next Tuesday, June 21 from 3:30-4:30 on ways community colleges can strategically and innovatively deploy the remaining federal higher education emergency relief funds (HEERF) to uplift students and our economy. The webinar will feature community college leaders including Dr. Michelle Asha Cooper, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Higher Education Programs at the U.S. Department of Education, Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart, President at Amarillo College, Dr. Marisa Vernon-White, Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services at Lorain County Community College, and Dr. Laurie Kierstead-Joseph, Assistant Vice Chancellor of  Adult Basic Education for College and Career at Pima Community College. The link to the webinar registration is here. In addition, they’re releasing several new resources, including a framework for spending, two case studies and two briefs highlighting innovative practices in the field that can be found on ESG’s website.
