New from EdNC
The Editor’s Notes
Last year, together we collectively coped with two disruptions at once: the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Helene in western NC, and changes in DC that had extraordinary ripple effects across our state.
At the same time, the NC ed ecosystem weathered an unprecedented amount of transition: from the governor’s office and N.C. DPI; to the N.C. Community College System; to the Public School Forum, NCASA, LatinxEd, and TFA; to turnover locally in districts and at community colleges.
For an organization that centers relationships, that makes for a hard year. Our team remains focused on the issues you care most about: the state budget, other legislative changes, and the State Health Plan. Ben Humphries will be at the legislature this summer until we have a budget.
When we tell the stories of our students, our state, and our future, we collectively write the story of public education in North Carolina. During the 2025-26 school year, more than 175 of you shared your voice with us by writing a perspective, Thank you.
Our content will never be behind a paywall, but we can’t do it without your help. That’s why today we are asking you to support EdNC. Small donations from lots of you helps us the most.
Thank you all for continuing to read our stories, continuing to use our content to create the change in the world our students deserve, and for inviting us into your classrooms and schools, your communities and your lives.
I am so very grateful. Mebane
