Teacher Appreciation Week: Mr. Evans at Huntsville Elementary

This is an essay submitted to EdNC by Bailey Landers, a third grade student at Huntsville Elementary School, in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. Mr. Clyde Evans inspired this submission. He's a teacher at Huntsville Elementary School in Rockingham County Schools.

“My work is a story that tells about how much I love my teacher,” Landers wrote. “I like to tell stories, so part of it is like a fairy tale (real-life) and part of it is like a poem.”

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a little girl who lived in a home on the hillside. Her family was very nice and they all were very happy in a land full of rainbows and unicorns. The little girl’s name was Bailey, and she had a sister whose name was Isabelle and was very nice.

Bailey went to school at a place called Huntsville Elementary School, and it was a very good school, and her teacher’s name was Mr. Evans. Bailey thought that he was the best teacher in all the land. And he was (and is) — he is very nice and kind and good at hugging, he was the best ever!

Now, our story begins at the school on Monday at 7:45 a.m. It was Monday and, as everyone knows, nobody, even some of the teachers, want to get up on Monday morning. But Bailey was excited and got up really early, because she loved her teacher and so therefore she was always happy to go to school. She loved her teacher because he was always so funny and kind, and you can’t get much better than that.

And just so that you know, all of this is true, except there are not as much rainbows and unicorns as I had hoped. But my teacher really is this great and I love him, and I love school, and love love love how lucky I was to get such good classmates and teachers. I love how much luck I have got!

My teacher is the BEST!
He is the best
And I try my hardest
To make my test
Even though it gets rough
With my classmates in tow
Mr. Evans makes it easier for me to want to go
Now this is all true
And I’ve did my very best
To try and explain why Mr. Evans is above the rest!
