Take a look at the archive of the NC Center for Public Policy Research

The archive of the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research (NCCPPR) is a collection of independent, nonpartisan public policy research on state government and public policy issues in North Carolina from 1977-2016.

The archive is now housed here on the EdNC website, and it includes all of the issues of the Center’s journal, “North Carolina Insight,” book-length research reports, rankings of the most effective legislators, rankings of the most influential lobbyists, and a guide to the legislature that was published every two years.

The research offers a unique perspective on how North Carolina’s public policy challenges evolved over four decades. Researchers, educators, journalists, policymakers, and students can see how issues emerged, what solutions were proposed, and how state government responded over time.

A brief history of the NCCPPR

The Center operated as an independent, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit think tank dedicated to the goals of a better-informed public and more effective, accountable, and responsive government.

Founded on Sept. 10, 1977, the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research identified public policy issues facing North Carolina and enriched the dialogue among residents, the media, and policymakers. Based on its research, the Center made recommendations for improving the way government serves the people of North Carolina.

For 40 years, the Center provided nonpartisan research, evaluation, and analysis on the most important public policy issues facing our state, serving as a think tank, watchdog, and futurist.

The North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research’s research earned state and national recognition, including many awards from the national Governmental Research Association for excellence in policy research, including outstanding policy achievement, most effective education of the public, and most distinguished research.
