One of the best parts of our work at EdNC is our opportunity to get to know educators. Really get to know them. We see them as parents. We see them taking care of their parents. We see them involved in their community. We see them — as Joy VanDyke, a fifth grade teacher at Forest City-Dunbar Elementary, reminds us in an article today — with the power to make a difference in and out of the classroom. We see them changing the world. As COVID-19 has shapeshifted education as we know it, we realized we needed to share stories with you about all the roles educators play to build empathy for the challenges they are facing during this time. Today meet two teachers who are taking on gun violence in their community. Please share these articles and spread the word: our teachers aren’t just teachers.
