The Editor’s Notes
Shout out to Hope Williams and the team at NCICU and the Independent College Fund of North Carolina. They achieved a groundbreaking fundraising milestone by raising nearly $3.5 million during their annual campaign!
Here is your playlist for the weekend, updated by Jeff McDaris. He says, “Some districts finished last week. Others grow closer to the end. One more week to go. Hang in there!”
As the 2023-24 school year comes to a close, thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting our work. I have driven more than 5,000 miles since early March visiting districts across North Carolina. From Jackson in the west to Tyrrell in the east, your leadership even in these polarized, politicized times continues to bring me and others hope as you choose day in and day out to do what is best for our students.
Over the summer, we would love for you to read our book on “North Carolina’s Choice” as part of your book club, PLC, or Sunday School class, and watch our recent short doc on all that is possible for students who choose public schools. We would also love for you to consider writing a perspective connecting practice to policy for our readers. And if you are a teacher who loves being social on social media, reach out to me at mrash at ednc.org. I’m looking for social ambassadors for the next school year.
It is our privilege to write the story of public education across North Carolina. I am so thankful for you!
