Happy Friday, y’all. Here is your playlist for the weekend from our favorite mountain philosopher, Superintendent Jeff McDaris.
If you haven’t heard about it, Mental Health First Aid is something we will be writing about in 2023. I first learned about it on our blitz of the 58. Our colleagues at RTI are offering a training in Youth Mental Health First Aid, an in-person course on how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This training will help you develop the skills you need to provide tangible support to youth experiencing a crisis. It’s on January 12 from 9am-4pm at RTI in RTP and the cost is $250. Open to 25 participants so sign up today.
This year, up to 15 selected NC GreenPower Solar+ Schools will receive a grant package that includes a fully funded 20-kW solar installation and nearly $8,000 in related benefits: STEM lessons, a hands-on activity kit, and a 6-hour certified teacher training. The application is open now through January 31, 2023. Any NC K-12 school in a Tier 1 or Tier 2
county may apply.
Here is the report from the House Select Committee on Advancing Women in STEM, which includes legislative proposals.
