New from EdNC
The Editor’s Notes
“It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of my beloved daddy and hero, former Governor Jim Hunt,” said Lt. Governor Rachel Hunt yesterday in a statement.
And so North Carolina finds itself mourning the loss of our education governor. You’ll find in this edition of EdDaily all the sources I’ve been asked for.
We’ve republished an article about Hunt, initially published on June 8, 2015, the evening the Governor and Carolyn Hunt received the 2015 Public School Forum of North Carolina Jay Robinson Education Leadership Award.
I’ve also included the perspective by Hunt in 2018 on basketball and teachers.
A link is included to the primary source of the Lt. Governor’s statement, which includes the statement from the family.
Much has been written and much more will be written about Hunt and his leadership. Here is the full dissertation of Trip Stallings on Southern governors, including Hunt.
It is worth taking a look at all the favorite photos people are posting on Facebook, including Anita Brown-Graham and John Hood.
Ferrel Guillory wrote yesterday, “What’s important is not that Hunt served four terms but how he used his leadership for public education and economic uplift.”
“The best leaders . . . have it working on their guts and their hearts,” Hunt said. He did. We will.
With love and prayers for the Lt. Governor and her family.
