The Editor’s Notes
We are thankful for all of our educators, and on Veterans Day we lift up those who served our country and now choose to serve our students.
Dr. Angie Mullenix recently posted on Instagram,
“On this day 25 years ago, I enlisted in the US Army through the Indianapolis MEPS. Never did I imagine all that my little 4 years of service would do for my future: give me job experience (Military Police Paratrooper), let me travel to distant countries, pay for my Bachelor’s degree, pay for my Master’s degree, pay for my Doctoral degree, lead me to my amazing husband & thereby our children, teach me to preserve despite all odds against me, lead me to my current role that supports enlistment as a post-secondary option and military-connected children across North Carolina, lead me to public service as a town council member, lead me to 10 Ironman triathlon finishes (thanks to a fellow soldier who asked me to do a few triathlon relays with her). The military was a great choice for me. I am very thankful for all it offered me. I was not a stellar soldier (I really only liked the running part), but I did it and it gave way more back to me!”
Here story is a powerful reminder of the enlist option for our students among the enlist, enroll, employ pathways.
Purple Star applications are open through Feb. 3 for schools and districts with military-friendly practices and support. Here is information on how to apply.
