New from EdNC
The Editor’s Notes
Tomorrow, the LatinxEd Summit will kick off, and for many of us, it will be bittersweet. Elaine Utin, shero to many including me, will transition out of her role as executive director later this year as she moves with her young family to Houston where her husband has been placed for his medical residency.
In building this organization that is now a fixture in the ed ecosystem of North Carolina, Elaine and Ricky Hurtado together have led the weaving of “a fabric of connection and hope for Latine education in North Carolina.”
Their leadership has focused on the assets of the community, looking within first and then lifting up “the wisdom, courage, and commitment needed to shape the future of education in our state.”
Today, EdNC publishes a collection of articles that together outline the challenges currently being faced by this community.
EdNC has issued a challenge grant for LatinxEd’s Legado campaign to honor Elaine and her exemplary leadership. We hope you will join us in not just supporting the work and leadership of this critical organization moving forward but investing in it. They are at 27% of a $10,000 goal. Make a difference today.
As Elaine says, “the only way forward is together.”
