New from EdNC
The Editor’s Notes
Lots of shout outs today as we launch into the world our documentary, “Our Community School.” This project started for us on the first day of school in August 2024 so it feels big and happy to share it. More than 4,000 people have watched it already!
It was Mary Ann Wolf who first asked me if this was possible. I am ever grateful for your big dreams. Endless gratitude to Keith Parker and the whole team at P.W. Moore. There is no way around it: We know it is disruptive for us to be in and out of classrooms and events with cameras all year long. Thank you for the grace, but thank you even more for your trust. To Dan Kimberg and the N.C. Community Schools Coalition, North Carolina — but more especially our students — is fortunate to have you. Your leadership has been unparalleled, especially on the hard days. To Robert Kinlaw and Wonder Storytelling, you are the best (and so patient with my endless punch lists).
You can also now follow the Coalition on social media: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn.
The Coalition also has a new website. Thank you, Andy Marino and Alli Lindenberg. Above and beyond, you are. Stay tuned, more good news is on the way tomorrow about the future of community schools in North Carolina.
EdNC has been flooded with perspective submissions since the first of the year. Next week, we are focusing on school choice and then we have our annual meeting. It is likely to be the week of Feb. 9 before we are back to our usual consideration and publishing of these. Thank you for your patience.
If you haven’t heard, a winter storm is on the way. EdNC’s weatherman — and best dad — Tom Sorrells, will be working with our team over the weekend to keep you safe and up to date on what’s happening where across North Carolina. Ben Humphries will be tracking school and community college closures. Gov. Josh Stein has declared a state of emergency.
