Connecting students to opportunity: The state of college and career advising in North Carolina school districts

Samantha Gutter is a social impact consultant focused on expanding educational opportunity and economic mobility. She works with philanthropy and nonprofit organizations on strategy and program development and management.
Originally from Alabama, Sam began her career as a kindergarten and first grade teacher through Teach For America. She went on to serve as chief access and outreach officer at the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, senior director of strategic initiatives at the State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE), and an education policy adviser for former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam. She holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Auburn University and master’s degree in education from Vanderbilt University.
As a consultant, her work has spanned statewide initiatives, public policy research, and education and workforce development efforts across the country. She lives in Charlotte, where much of her current work focuses on expanding postsecondary and workforce pathways across North Carolina in partnership with the John M. Belk Endowment.
