Ryan Thorne
Ryan Thorne serves as an expert correspondent for EdNC, writing about learning differences. Ryan brings experience in classroom instruction and school leadership. As a native of eastern North Carolina, Ryan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and minors in English and Italian Studies from Duke University.
After a brief career in museums, she joined Teach For America - Eastern North Carolina, serving as a humanities educator while concurrently earning a Master of Science in Education in Secondary Education from Johns Hopkins University. She went on to serve as a reading resource teacher and department chair on an Exceptional Children’s team in Edgecombe County Public Schools. She has participated in projects through the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Buck Institute for Education, and the Rural Opportunity Institute.
Most recently, she served as the assistant principal at G. W. Carver Elementary School in Pinetops. Currently, she serves as the Upper School history teacher and Department Chair at the The Oakwood School. She can be reached at [email protected].
