Day McLaughlin grew up in Chapel Hill and earned a degree in elementary education from UNC-Greensboro. She then completed a master’s degree in education at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. McLaughlin taught elementary grades 3-6 in Charlotte, England, Massachusetts, Illinois, South Carolina, and Chapel Hill-Carrboro. She continues to volunteer in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools and tutors refugee children.
