Central Carolina Community College’s (CCCC) English as a Second Language (ESL) students got a special look at the college’s career resources last month, according to a CCCC press release. 

The College and Career Exploration Night featured representatives from the college’s seven academic programs, called “career communities,” who outlined the classes students could take to prepare for specific careers, the press release said.

Those clusters are applied technologies, arts, business technologies, professional services, public safety, health sciences, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). 

“I’m very excited,” said Ana Cecilia Lule, one of the attendees. “All of the careers are very interesting.”

Group “E,” for example, began by learning about the business technologies cluster, which focuses on accounting and business administration careers, and the public safety cluster, which prepares students for careers in law enforcement, firefighting, and emergency medical services, among others.

The event’s 80 estimated attendees were mainly ESL students and those enrolled in the college’s High School Equivalency Diploma programs in English or Spanish. The college has about 500 ESL students enrolled across Chatham, Harnett, and Lee counties, the release said, in both online and in-person programs.
