The Editor’s Notes

Heads up superintendents and presidents in WNC. The details of Stein’s second request for funding the WNC recovery from Hurricane Helene are important, including a hold harmless for school districts and budget stabilization for community colleges. Please read and share.

The State Health Plan is moving forward with changes to benefits to the plan and in August will vote on an increase in premiums. Kimberly Jones, the 2023 Burroughs Welcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year, was the only board member who voted against the plan design changes. NCAE’s Tamika Walker Kelly was there to advocate for educators. It’s time to learn more so you can weigh in. Anna Pogarcic and Ben Humphries are leading EdNC’s ongoing coverage.

Also don’t miss the research from our colleagues at NCGrowth and ncIMPACT on the county tiers.

And, yes, EdNC’s Chantal Brown did get to sit down with the Ken Burns and have a one-on-one conversation. Go Chantal!
