This is the second in a series of five articles on expanding educational opportunity in North Carolina, culminating in the release on Thursday, October 20 of the Public School Forum’s Study Group XVI final report — Expanding Educational Opportunity in North Carolina: Action Plan and Recommendations. The authors served as the co-chairs of the Study Group’s Committee on Trauma & Learning.

About the authors

Katie Rosanbalm, Ph.D., is a Research Scholar with the Center for Child and Family Policy at Duke University. Rosanbalm is currently involved in a number of projects to enhance long-term outcomes for children with trauma histories. Trained as a child clinical psychologist, Rosanbalm’s work focuses on program implementation and evaluation in the areas of child maltreatment prevention, early childhood systems, and self-regulation development.

Nation Hahn is the Chief Growth Officer for EdNC. Nation manages the Reach NC Voices initiative for EducationNC which is focused on putting the public back in public policy. Reach uses technology and participatory design strategies to connect with North Carolinians.
