EducationNC reporter Liz Bell on Tuesday joined some of the leaders featured in EdNC short film series ‘Equity Meets Education’ on WUNC’s The State of Things, hosted by Frank Stasio. James Ford, former North Carolina Teacher of the Year and educational consultant; Jason Terrell, co-founder and executive director of Profound Gentlemen; and Toussaint Romain, a public defender and UNC-Charlotte professor, discussed disparities in educational outcomes for students of color. Listen here.
EdNC is releasing the four-part series, which also features North Edgecombe High School Principal Donnell Cannon, throughout the week. The men share their stories and work in improving systems to ensure equal opportunity for all students.
There will be screenings of the films and panel discussions with some of the men in them on Feb. 7 at the Full Frame Theater in Durham at 6 PM and on Feb. 12 at the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte at 6 PM. We welcome all to come, listen, and join in a conversation around racial equity in the state’s schools.
