
On April 20, a panel of North Carolina science, technology, engineering, and math leaders from education and the workforce discussed how to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields, including how to increase opportunities for women and people of color.
The discussion, moderated by Ben Owens of Open Way Learning, included the following panelists:
- Ellie Ebrahimi: Assistant professor, UNC-Wilmington.
- Gina Likins: Corporate citizenship program manager, Red Hat.
- Sheronica Sharp: Digital literacy coach, Wilson County Schools.
- Pam Rivers: Technical support manager, Hillrom.
- Aria Chernik: Associate professor of the practice, Duke University.
- Dominique Stone: CEO and founder, Elevate 540, LLC.

@Tech_Shorty also says she doesn’t care for the term “underrepresented.” She prefers underserved, because “we’re here, we just haven’t always had those opportunities.”
