State Superintendent Mark Johnson announces reading partnership with Carolina Panthers: 3rd & Goal Read Along

The following is a press release from the State Department of Public Instruction

State Superintendent Mark Johnson today announced the launch of the new reading partnership between NC DPI and the Carolina Panthers.  The 3rd & Goal Read Along is intended to help students and their parents work on reading and other literacy skills.  The program, which is designed for K-3 students, is a literacy initiative to assist students in K-3 with the goals of achieving grade-level proficiencies by the end of third grade.

“We are excited to team up with the Carolina Panthers to engage students and empower parents and educators,” said Superintendent Johnson.  “Teachers can use this fun resource in their classrooms, and parents can use it at home as another way to engage students in the joy of reading.”

Superintendent Johnson was with the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte Tuesday when the team launched its 3rd & Goal reading program.

“The Carolina Panthers are going to help us make sure K-3 students get off to a great start and reach their goals,” said Superintendent Johnson.

Reading tips include:

  • Talking to your child about learning new words
  • Reading with your child every day for 20 minutes
  • Encouraging your child to write notes and letters
  • Asking your child about what they are reading
