The efficacy of Read to Achieve

Teachers and students read books at Cook Literacy Model School in Winston-Salem. Liz Bell/EducationNC

Recently, the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation published a report on the state’s Read to Achieve program, a state initiative pushed by the Republican-led General Assembly to make sure children are reading on grade level. The Friday Institute report has examined the first cohorts to go through the program and found no improvement as a result of Read to Achieve interventions. In this episode of EdTalk, host Alex Granados talks with Trip Stallings and Steve Porter about the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation report on Read to Achieve. Stallings is director of policy research at the Friday Institute, and Porter is a professor of Higher Education at the NC State College of Education.
