Nurturing teachers, nurturing the teacher pipeline

“I think you have what it takes to be a teacher.”
In this episode of EdTalk, host Alex Granados talks with Johanna Anderson, executive director of The Belk Foundation, about the power of that statement, about our teachers, the teacher pipeline, school leaders, and equity.
Anderson traveled across our North Carolina during the summer of 2016, meeting with leaders involved in education, listening for common barriers and concerns as well as fresh ideas for strengthening the teacher pipeline. She sees the pipeline holistically from recruiting prospective teachers to preparing teachers for the classroom to supporting beginning teachers to developing and retaining teachers to leveraging master teachers. This is one of her favorite issues.
As we move forward, Anderson urges us to think about how we adapt the teaching profession to appeal to the millennial workforce.
