As part of National School Choice Week, the conservative-leaning John Locke Foundation hosted researchers Trip Stallings and Stephen Porter to give background on the state’s opportunity scholarship (voucher) program.They also gave a glimpse of the upcoming results of an independent evaluation into how opportunity scholarship students fare academically.
Porter is a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development at NC State University. Stallings, director of policy research at NC State University’s Friday Institute did the bulk of the presentation, also revealing the challenges involved in accurately evaluating the opportunity scholarship program.
