Governor Pat McCrory

Governor Pat McCrory announced Wednesday his appointments to the North Carolina State Board of Education’s Charter Schools Advisory Board.

Joe Maimone, Headmaster at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy in Mooresboro, and Tammi Sutton, Executive Director of KIPP Eastern North Carolina Public Schools, were both appointed for another term.

Hilda Parler, Founder and President of the Board of Directors of Wake Forest Charter Academy, was appointed for her first term.

And Alex Quigley, former Vice Chair of the Board and Executive Director of PAVE Southeast Raleigh Charter School, was named chairperson.

“I am proud to have such strong leaders serving our charter school students in North Carolina. Every student deserves to have an excellent education,” Governor McCrory said in a press release. “I know we can count on this leadership to prioritize the needs of our students by holding a high bar for new and existing charter schools and maintaining accountability to ensure that all schools provide high quality educational opportunities for their students.”

The Board is tasked with making recommendations to the State Board of Education about charter schools rules, applications and other actions.
