My work at EducationNC almost daily takes my breathe away. I am thankful for the generosity of spirit I see day in and day out in the work our teachers and schools leaders do to provide better educational opportunities for our students and build a better world. As we head into Thanksgiving week, take a look at our video of Donnell Cannon, the principal of North Edgecombe High School, speaking to the N.C. State Board of Education about “running toward the risk of figuring out how to do school differently.” And then take a look at the video about the IBM Service Corps and the work we have done in the last month to help ECPS connect data sets to tell a fuller picture of student performance, exploring how to account for student voice, leadership, resilience in addition to test scores, to think about how to connect what’s happening in schools now to OECD’s 2030 Learning Framework. Over Takis and UNO and pizza and four square, the students and the IBMers are figuring out school and leadership and life, now and in the future, and it has been my privilege to be part of the process. As Mr. Cannon says, “Light up the world,” and I’d just add, “y’all.” #loveNC, Mebane
