EdNC. Essential education news. Important stories. Your voice.

April 24, 2020

Hey y’all!

The Governor will make his announcement about schools at 2 p.m. today. View live stream here:

In the alternate reality that would have unfolded without COVID-19, team EdNC would be at Merlefest right now, which is held each year at Wilkes Community College. Robert has been working way too many hours on a documentary about the music festival. It’s a great story about the power of community colleges to do big, great things for their students and their community. It’s been our privilege to work with Jeff Cox, Ted Hagaman, and Allison Phillips, and we look forward to releasing the full cut next year. In the meantime, for our moment of hope this Friday, please watch the rough cut Robert released yesterday, and let us know what you think. It’s full of good music, moments, and memories — just as it should be. Here it is on YouTube.

On a personal note, my youngest son Wells released a song last night with his band yesdude! called Hold Me Close. The boys say on Instagram, “enjoy this time with your family, call your friends and tell them that you love them.” You can find the song on Spotify.

Thank you for holding EdNC close during these times. Our readers and pageviews are up more than 30%. It is our privilege to serve you. Please email me at with your thoughts, questions, or concerns.
