New from EdNC

The Editor’s Notes
Our documentary about the play “Surge,” which was released on Friday, already has more than 8k views! Please take a look, share, and leave a comment for us and the students to see.
Thank you to the N.C. Press Association for honoring our commitment to public service and the leadership of our team, especially Emily Thomas and Caroline Parker. WNC is home for me, and if you live out here, you know recovery is just beginning. So is EdNC’s coverage.
In Surge, four reporters covering the hurricane serve as narrators, but community members also call them out for how they showed up in communities after the storm.
“You know, it would go a lot faster if you would help us,” a student says to one reporter.
“How bad is it?” another reporter asks the father of a family in the play. “Look around,” the father responds.
Later in the play, as a reporter begins to help, a community member played by Rowan Tait asks, “Are you a day helper or a stay helper?”
Tait’s question, his call to action, has kept me up at night like nothing else ever — and there have been plenty of things that have kept me up at night in this job.
At our board and strategic council gathering a few weeks ago, we talked about EdNC’s strategic support in times of crisis. We will continue to pilot how to best bring leadership capacity and philanthropic resources into the communities we serve in times of need.
Thank you for being part us.
