The Editor’s Notes

Great Schools North Carolina announced that the application window for its 2025 School Quality Grant opens August 26 through September 9, 2025. The program invites charter school leaders across the state to apply for $150,000 in funding, dedicated coaching, and collaborative partnerships aimed at boosting student outcomes.

North Carolina state lawmakers didn’t take any votes yesterday, and the veto overrides that were on the House calendar for Tuesday will be rescheduled. WRAL is reporting that “Edgecombe County Democrat Shelly Willingham says he plans to vote with the GOP to override the governor’s veto of House Bill 87, enabling a federal tax credit in North Carolina for donations to private school vouchers.” The NC Tribune is reporting that “Leaders of the N.C. Legislative Black Caucus says all 41 of its members will stand steadfast in keeping the House and Senate from overriding Gov. Josh Stein’s vetoes of a trio of anti-DEI bills.” Stay tuned.
