The Editor’s Notes

The Governor’s Teacher Advisory Committee meets at 10 a.m.

From Ray Gronberg at the NC Tribune, in case you are wondering about who might be the next President Pro Tem of the Senate this summer morning:

“The four men most often mentioned as potential successors to Phil Berger as the next Senate president pro tem between them have raised $2.7 million so far this election cycle.

Senate Majority Leader Michael Lee, R-New Hanover, has raised just under $1.3 million. He occupies a known, R+1 swing seat and is up against Democratic nominee Jessica Bichler, who has raised $171,849 so far.

Senate Agriculture chair Brent Jackson, R-Sampson, has raised $718,573 for the cycle.

Senate Majority Whip Todd Johnson, R-Union, has raised $474,403 and Deputy President Pro Tem Ralph Hise, R-Mitchell, has raised $246,760.

Unlike Lee, Jackson, Johnson and Hise occupy relatively safe seats. All three are R+12 in the 2026 Civitas Partisan Index.”
