The Editor’s Notes
I’ll be delivering the commencement address for Haywood Early College tonight at 7 p.m. The amazing Robert Kinlaw and I will premiere a short documentary titled, “This Is Possible.” Please join us. It will be streamed here.
Nation Hahn had the opportunity to work with Blue Cross NC on their Extra Miles Tour, driving toward an ambitious goal of visiting all 100 counties. Along the way, we were able to share with them the unique challenges our communities face and highlight those working on the front lines to improve the health, education, and the well-being of all of the people that call North Carolina home. The report is out, and it is a powerful reminder that while each county in our state might work in different ways, together we are all moving toward the same goal of a stronger North Carolina.
Thank you to the SMT Center for honoring the work of EdNC. Here is the video. “This work is not about us. It’s about the educators and the students they serve — these students who will go on to be the workers of tomorrow and these educators who are showing up in these polarized and politicized times. We show up to make sure their voices are heard and they are seen.” The video highlights the excellence of our public schools. This one focuses on the amazing Greene County Schools, which provides a STEM pathway from kindergarten through graduation!
It’s been a big week for the EdNC team. Our book is the #1 new release on Amazon in early childhood education. Today we released the discussion guide for the book, along with a gift card incentive for reading the book in groups — from book clubs to PLCs to Sunday School, from summer reading for schools and districts to convocation when we come back to school. We hope you will read, talk, and think together about our public schools and the role they play in local economies around the state.
Here is your playlist for the weekend courtesy of Jeff McDaris.
To our educators, thank you from all of us this week and every week.
