The N.C. State Board of Education meets Tuesday-Thursday for its planning session.

May 4 is crossover.

Here is the House calendar. You can see the K-12 committee meeting on Tuesday will take up several bills important to public education, including the charter school omnibus, open enrollment, and HB 823 which includes charter school expansion and graduation in three years.

Here is the Senate calendar. We expect SB 692 on community college governance to be taken up today in the education/higher education committee.

Also on May 4, The Governor’s Commission on the Governance of Public Universities in North Carolina will meet at 9:00 am in the 5th Floor Conference Room in the Department of Environmental Quality (217 West Jones St., Raleigh).

The United Negro College Fund has opened applications for the Fidelity Scholars program, providing debt-free higher education and ongoing support to students from underserved communities in Raleigh/Durham. Deadline is 5/4. Apply here: https://uncf.org/programs/fidelity-scholars-program.
