The Editor’s Notes
On Tuesday, April 16th, SparkNC won first prize for impact at the 2024 Education Innovation Showcase at the ASU+GSV Summit in San Diego, CA! Watch the video! Learn more about SparkNC here.
And if you don’t know them, meet Leah Carper and Ryan Mitchell, real life educator superheroes.
Today, Leah — the 2022 TOY — writes about autism since this is Autism Awareness Month, lifting up the story of her son. She says, “It’s time to shift the narrative from ‘awareness’ to ‘acceptance’ because the real work lies not in simply acknowledging autism’s existence, but in cultivating a society that embraces neurodiversity and responds with kindness and patience.” EdNC is writing a series of stories about the superpowers of EC students. Email me if you have a story to share at mrash at ednc.org.
And Ryan — 2022 regional TOY — is featured in a story that busts the perception that students don’t want to be teachers. Read about the summit he planned to build a student pipeline of teachers, and replicate it in your district!
