The Editor’s Notes
Yesterday, the 14th Annual NC Child Hunger Leaders Conference was more than a convening. It was an opportunity to see new leaders in North Carolina address a critical issue, and address it as the state may be facing the loss of federal funding. Gov. Josh Stein spoke about the advocacy — and coalition building, including partnering with farmers — needed on child nutrition, but so did his Senior Director on Child and Family Policy Madhu Vulimiri as well as DPI’s new-ish Director of Nutrition Rachel Findley.
“We need to continue to do this work,” said Vulimiri, “using all of the levers that we have at our disposal to maximize the impact of evidence-based programs — like SNAP and WIC and CACFP and SUN Bucks and school meals and Medicaid — that we know work, and make sure that more people who are eligible for them can access them.”
Here is EdNC’s guide to advocacy.
