New from EdNC

What you need to know to be an effective advocate

Much of my career has been spent trying to make sure people across the state are comfortable and confident participating in state government, from walking into the legislature to interacting with policymakers.…

The Editor’s Notes

As an independent, online media outlet, EdNC does not advocate, but based on our reporting and research, we study and share advocacy strategies with the public and our readers.

With the long session preparing to kick into high gear — word is both chambers want to be done by July 4th — please read and share our guide to advocacy. This year, I structured it like courses from Advocacy 101 to Advocacy 501. Ongoing thanks to Ran Coble for his shaping of the 101 and 201 sections. And shout out to Lynn Moody and SparkNC for inspiring the 501 section — truly amazing!

Advocacy has changed a lot in the 32 years I have been studying the legislature. This session, in addition to reporting on education issues at the legislature, our team will be studying the state of education advocacy throughout the long session to check our own assumptions about what is and isn’t happening, who does and doesn’t have influence.
