The Editor’s Notes
As the state wraps up celebrating its collective progress towards the attainment goal and the leadership of myFutureNC, your help is needed now.
There is one week left during this Financial Aid Awareness month to make sure upcoming graduates and their parents know that Finishing the FAFSA can open the door to thousands of dollars of federal, state, and institutional aid to help pay for college, including Pell Grants, the new Next NC Scholarship, state Need-Based Scholarships, and more!
NCSEAA and CFNC have made available all of the FAFSA February tools and resources you need to help get the word out.
“The good news is over 34,000 students across the state have completed a FAFSA so far this year, and they have collectively earned an estimated $67M in Pell Grants, to help make paying for college more manageable,” says myFutureNC. “But that still leaves two-thirds of North Carolina high school seniors who have yet to take this important step, so we will be working with you to reach them throughout the spring.”
In other news, the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions, voted yesterday, Feb. 20, 2025, in a 12-11 party line vote to approve the nomination of Linda McMahon for Secretary of Education, advancing the nomination to the full Senate for a vote. Here is a video of the committee meeting yesterday.
