I’ll be speaking with Leadership North Carolina this morning about our public school students. Did you know 34% of our students live in rural counties? Did you know our students speak 334 different languages, with Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Hindi/Indian/Urdu being the top five languages spoken in our public schools? Did you know there are 16 categories of exceptional children served by our public schools? And, as our state board will hear today, last year the average daily census for students served in psychiatric residential treatment facilities was 301 children with an average age of 13 and an average length of stay of 279 days.
Thank you for supporting our work to build awareness about all of our students and all of our public schools.
