CMS sent the following statement to parents via email, according to WBTV:
“CMS remains committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for all students. The district will continue to follow all federal and state laws that protect students’ rights to a public education. Under the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1982 decision in Plyler v. Doe, all children, regardless of immigration status, have the constitutional right to attend public school. Our priority remains the same: the safety, well-being, and education of every student in our care. Please know that we have Student Services support staff available at each school to assist students and families. Additional information about these services is available here. Here are a few important things to know: The safety, well-being, and education of every student remains CMS’s top priority. The district is committed to ensuring all families feel confident that our schools are places where students are supported and protected.”
