The Editor’s Notes
Some news before I ask a favor of you this morning.
Colin Campbell at the N.C. Tribune is reporting the following on Leandro:
“With the N.C. Supreme Court soon to be in Republican hands, it’s unclear what will happen next with the pending court order to transfer funding from the state treasury to implement the court’s remedial plan for schools.
‘We’re going to continue to look at where we are legally,’ Moore said. But he raised one interesting possibility: The legislature could effectively undo the transfer of funds when it passes a new budget next year. Moore said the budget writers could look at the state agencies that receive money through the Leandro order, and ‘maybe they get a credit or offset against what they’ve already gotten by the court.'”
With that, good morning from Sylva! I had a super great day yesterday visiting with Superintendent Dana Ayers. From her first day on the job here, she has been helping me think about the need for more early child care. I am so very thankful to all of you who welcome us and help us do our job better.
EducationNC is turning 8 in January 2023, and we are thinking about our impact, especially from the connections made when we travel. Maybe we’ve visited you to write and article or conduct public policy research. Maybe you’ve seen us as we blitz all 58 community colleges. Maybe we’ve crossed paths as we bring policymakers or philanthropists to see your best practices. Maybe you are one of the 50,000 who see our work on social media each day or you open one of the 250,000 emails we send out each week or or you are one of the 2 million who visit EdNC.org annually.
From the impact of our articles and perspectives to our presence in your classroom or community, please share with us the ripple effects of our work (for example, who read our work that we might not know about; how do you see our articles shared; did you meet or build relationships with new people; did you get a grant; etc.).
Weigh in on how EdNC is doing by taking this brief survey. Plus, leave your name and email in the final question for a chance to receive one of five $100 Amazon gift cards. The survey will close on Friday, December 2. Thank you! Mebane
