New from EdNC

The Editor’s Notes
The story of Micaville is both inspiring and heartbreaking. Deputy Superintendent Jeremy Gibbs says, “That’s a very special school.”
Since 1936, it is a school that has played an important role in the lives of the people of Yancey County. And there isn’t an easy or obvious answer for the moving forward in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
The teachers at Micaville lost all of their belongings in their classrooms. They have put together Amazon wishlists to rebuild their classrooms.
And the district aspires to play a role in helping the community rebuild their lives with district-led initiatives to build 40 tiny homes over the next five years and replace 60 vehicles over the next three years.
If you are interested in supporting these teachers and this district, please email me at mrash at ednc.org for more information.
