New from EdNC

The Editor’s Notes
In keeping with EdNC’s practice of asking “who are you?” over and over to better know someone:
“Hall is from Caldwell County. He was raised by his grandparents. He is a Christian. He attended public schools. He is a first-generation college graduate. He is a Mountaineer. He is a lawyer. He is a school board attorney. He is married. He is expecting his first child. He is a conservative, Republican politician. He is the Speaker of the N.C. House.”
Two things were clear from our research. Hall is respected for his willingness to listen. And the superintendent and president of the community college in Caldwell County think the world of him as both a member of their community and as a leader.
Hall encourages people to get to know their legislators. He has a relationship with Caldwell County Schools and CCC&TI, and that makes a difference for him. He encourages people to get to know their legislator’s staff too. “The first step is building relationships,” he says.
Shout out to Mary Ann Wolf at the Public School Forum of NC for co-authoring this article with me.
