Emma Marshall


Emma Marshall is a master’s student in the UNC Chapel Hill economics department with research interests focusing on education and the achievement gap. At Carolina Demography, Emma works on projects pertaining to FAFSA completion and college readiness of students in economically disadvantaged communities.

Outside of Carolina Demography, she is working with Jane Fruehwirth in studying the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on teachers and students.

Emma Marshall earned a B.S. in both Economics and Sociology from Penn State University. Previously she worked as a Summer Associate at Equal Opportunity Ventures on a startup called EdLight, which aims to close the feedback loop on assignments between parents, teachers, and students.
