Christian Walter serves Guilford County Schools as principal at the Sylvia Mendez Newcomers School, which is projected to open by the end of the first semester in 2023. Walter is a 2021 LatinxEd Fellow. Prior to that, he was assistant principal at Western Guilford Middle School for four years. He completed Guilford County Schools’ GALA cohort for African American and Latinx administrators in June 2022 and New Leaders’ Assistant Principal Leadership Academy (APLA) in 2019-2020. Walter is also an active presenter for the North Carolina Department of Instruction EL Support Team and was recognized as Guilford County School’s Assistant Principal of the Year Finalist in October 2020. Born and raised in Argentina, he is a native Spanish speaker. He earned his bachelor’s in English and broadcasting from the National University of La Plata in Argentina and holds a master’s in TESOL from Greensboro College and a post-master’s certificate of school administration and executive leadership from Gardner-Webb University. He also holds a post-master’s certificate for school administrators in dual language immersion programs and an Ed.S from East Carolina University. Walter is pursuing an Ed.D. at East Carolina University. His philosophy is tied to the belief that all students can learn regardless of their ethnicity or socioeconomic status provided they are exposed to high academic expectations. During his free time, he enjoys traveling, grilling with his family, and running.
