EdNC is hiring! We are looking for a:

  • Audience Engagement Specialist
  • Western North Carolina Coordinator

Job descriptions and application requirements are listed below.

Audience Engagement Specialist

EducationNC’s work focuses on engaging North Carolinians around an array of education issues. We believe engaging North Carolinians is just as important as keeping them informed. We are seeking an Audience Engagement Specialist to help us build relationships with readers across platforms including email newsletters, text messaging, search engines, and social media. The majority of this position’s role will focus on our postsecondary education work. This is a full time position.

We’re looking for someone who will be a listener and a conversationalist. The ideal candidate will be passionate about audience engagement across all of our channels — including by developing strategies for channels we are not currently using. We want this person to really get to know our community, understand their information needs, and help to close our engagement loop. We seek a candidate with experience and a knack for getting people to subscribe to newsletters, share their thoughts, and submit stories on pressing issues. We also want this person to be able to help track our successes (or failures!) with our audience.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Curating newsletters, testing/segmenting to optimize performance, and installing processes to consistently maintain email health
  • Driving strategies for optimizing the connection to our social audiences — such as by refining our boosting strategies, connecting with influencers, and evaluating the ROI of these efforts
  • Building audience participation in and awareness of our Reach NC Voices community — particularly for our postsecondary education audience
  • Building audience participation in our text messaging group among the postsecondary education community across North Carolina
  • Curating postsecondary education events
  • Coordinating engagement initiatives, as well as audience-centric research and product improvements across our platforms, news processes, and events
  • Travel across North Carolina (and occasionally beyond!)
You should apply for this position if you have experience:
  • Producing email and social media content, with a strong understanding of the role of social media in the traditional media landscape (1+ years)
  • Building reader participation in and awareness of content
  • Moderating/curating user-generated content (such as comments, live discussions, etc.)
  • Engagement/community management in media or publishing (1+ years)
  • Experience in setting and measuring KPIs and analytics to determine the effectiveness of campaigns that we produce
  • There is no degree requirement for this position
It also helps if you have:
  • Strong time management and interpersonal skills
  • Coding background in at least CSS, HTML
  • Ability to work under both breaking news and long-term planning deadlines
  • A high level of organization, drive and assertiveness
  • An understanding of North Carolina
  • Experience increasing reach and engagement at a media organization
  • Experience with email analytics as well as other listening and engagement tools like Crowdtangle and Google Analytics
  • Fluency in Spanish

We know there are great people who won’t check all of these boxes, and we also know you might bring important skills that we haven’t thought of. If that’s you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.
