The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council is taking applications, according to the Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

Rising high school juniors — current 10th graders — can apply to be a student adviser to Superintendent of Public Instruction Maurice “Mo” Green by submitting this form.

Applications close on May 1 at 11:59 p.m.

“If you are interested in state K-12 education issues, advocating on behalf of your peers, and serving as an advisor to decision-makers in K-12 education, this opportunity is for you!” the DPI website says.

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council is a group of high school students representing the state’s eight education regions. Members meet virtually every month and serve two-year terms that run through the end of their senior year.

Students can engage with leaders and experts from DPI, the State Board of Education, the General Assembly, and the Governor’s Office during their term. They can also gain insight into key statewide issues and can offer their perspectives on how to support students, educators, and public schools, including charter schools.

Each year concludes with an opportunity for council members to take part in Student Advocacy Day at the General Assembly, where they also meet with the superintendent.
