LAST WEEK’S RESULTS

THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK

When you think about your local community college, which aspect of their work feels the most important to the future of your local economy?

“The college’s solution had three strategies: increase the number of applicants, make sure those applicants actually enrolled in the college, and create programming that would retain the students and ensure they graduated.”

NATION’S NOTES

Raise your hand if you knew the NC Community College system recently adopted a new strategic plan.

The system’s new plan was adopted in January, but you will likely hear a whole lot more about it now that President Peter Hans has taken charge. The name of the system’s plan, Putting Education to Work, illustrates the core strategic approach of the plan, which is built around four themes:

  • Student Interest and Access
  • Clear and Supported Pathways for Student Progress and Success
  • Economic and Workforce Impact
  • System Effectiveness
Under the theme and question of student interest and access, the community college system goes on to ask how they might overcome a lack of interest — and I would add a lack of quality information — around the pathways within post-secondary education. How might we reduce barriers to entry? I’m curious to know what you think our community colleges might do to accomplish that goal. Send an email to nhahn@ednc.org, tweet us @ReachNCVoices, or text NATION to 73224 to share your thoughts. We’ll publish the best ones!

If you want to check out the plan before you offer your thoughts, head over to the system website: http://www.nccommunitycolleges.edu/strategic-plan.

All the best,
Nation

We want to hear from you.
