Superintendent Mark Johnson sent out a new video message to state teachers this week. In it, he identifies his goals for 2018, including increasing teacher pay, expanding personalized learning, and expanding early childhood education.
In the video, Johnson also said that he is working on a fix to the K-3 class size mandate handed down by the General Assembly and slated to go into full effect next year.
But the main purpose of Johnson’s video was to seek input from teachers on post-secondary education options for students.
“I don’t believe that every student needs to go to college to be a success,” he said in the video, adding that he believed some sort of education after high school was important.
Johnson said that the responses he gets will help guide how he works with the General Assembly and will assist with the work of the My Future NC Commission, of which he is a member.
