About the author

Jordan Wilkie is a master’s student at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Media and Journalism. He grew up in Texas and moved to the Pacific Northwest to earn his B.A. in Political Science at the University of Oregon. Jordan spent three years working to support education in Oregon’s prisons and juvenile detentions before deciding to become a journalist. He has previously written for The Daily Tar Heel, UNC’s student newspaper, and The Durham VOICE, a community paper serving Northeast Central Durham neighborhoods. Jordan has a passion for travel and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Haitian Humanitarian Network, a nonprofit operating a small health clinic in rural Southwest Haiti.
