On Oct. 3-4, 2024, the Dudley Flood Center for Educational Equity and Opportunity (Flood Center) will host its annual Color of Education Summit in Raleigh.

The Flood Center welcomes educators, policymakers, advocates, researchers, students, and other stakeholders to gather. This year’s theme is “Preserving Our Legacy: The Power of the Stories We Carry.”
“This year’s theme centers the belief that legacy is not only preserved in history books or institutions — it lives in the stories we carry and share,” the website states. “Educators, students, and communities hold powerful narratives that reflect struggle, resilience, joy, and growth. These stories help us understand identity, build collective purpose, and spark transformational change — critical components of an equitable public education system and a healthy democracy.”

The two-day summit will feature multiple breakout sessions, panel discussions, and opportunities for networking and community building. In addition, the event will include messages from Dr. Eve Ewing, Tara Roberts, and Dr. John King Jr.
