From EdNC’s Alex Granados on the N.C. State Board of Education meeting held yesterday:

On a conference call yesterday, the State Board of Education heard from members involved in the working group appointed by Governor Roy Cooper to work out issues related to childcare, nutrition services, and remote learning.

They heard updates on what districts and the state are doing to provide needed childcare, make sure that free-and-reduced price lunch eligible students are still receiving meals, and how efforts to continue instruction are going.

Some districts are reporting confusion as to whether remote instruction constitutes core instruction or just supplemental learning. State Board Chair Eric Davis said further guidance on that is likely upcoming.

The Board also tabled a vote to extend the contract with iStation until the end of July, pending the receipt of answers to a variety of questions, including whether school districts need iStation assessments given the issues with COVID-19.

These are the sources EdNC checks every day: The New York Times, The 74, Education Week, The NC Tribune, The Insider, The News & Observer, The Charlotte Observer, WUNC, WFAE, Brookings, Education Commission of the States, and DPI’s News.
